equine fitness, cross-training, and conditioning timelines at various equine
expos and radio shows. Jec contributes regularly to Dressage Today, Topline
Ink, Honest Horses and Eclectic Horseman magazines.

development, she is a committed rider, author, philosopher, published poet

Craig
Cameron
Craig Cameron Horsemanship booth 232
|
|
Biography
|
Craig Cameron (General Training, Problem Solving) - grew up dreaming of
being a cowboy. Craig went to high school in Houston, TX, where he excelled
in football and track, but Craig was always most at home 100 miles West at
the 1,700 acre family cattle ranch. While still in high school, with no
formal training, Craig entered open rodeos in Texas where he competed in all
the rough stock events.
After high school Craig moved to a family ranch where he learned the
ranching business from the famous Texas Ranger family, the Hamers. Craig
loved traditional ranching methods always using horses in the operation to
work, move, and handle the cattle.
While living on the ranch, Craig pursued his rodeo career, earned his PRCA
card, and lived the rodeo life for almost two decades. During this period
Craig specialized in the bull riding and traveled all over the United
States, Canada, and Mexico, competing in the biggest rodeos in the world
including Houston, Fort Worth, Cheyenne, Calgary, and many more.
Craig grew up watching the rough and tumble methods of horse breaking and
training in the 1950's and 60's and Craig never did believe or cotton to the
unnecessary rough treatment these horses received. At the ranch Craig took
on problem horses from local ranchers and used a slower more natural
approach that seemed to work. Clients would get their horses back and be
puzzled by the incredible transition that had taken place in such a short
time. People wanted to come watch the magic at work. Craig said, "When I
started making them pay, they really started listening."
Craig then heard about a man named Ray Hunt who advocated working with the
horse and not against him. Craig followed in Ray Hunt's trail and became one
of the "original clinicians," filming his first video in 1985. Now Craig
performs his magic to horse enthusiasts all over the world where he travels
almost 90,000 miles and 44 weeks a year. Craig, called the Public Defender
of the horse, also hosts two silver "Telly" TV shows, "Ride Smart" and "The
Extreme Cowboy Race" on RFDTV, which have brought him even more notoriety.
Craig Cameron keeps the
cowboy way alive and well each day. Although he is most noted for his
innovative horsemanship skills and exciting teaching techniques, he is also
an incredible woodsman and hunter. Craig has received many awards, American
Cowboy Culture Award for the Working Cowboy, Western Equestrian Award, and
was recently honored by being adopted by the Crow Indian Nation and given
the name "Captures Many Horses" for his work with the Crow Indians in
Montana. If you know Craig Cameron, you know his sense of humor and his
trademark laugh that he is well known for at all his clinics, at the ranch
and on the road. But the road in many ways seems to still be home to Craig
Cameron. After years of rodeo and decades of horsemanship clinics on the
road, Craig is still going strong at an age where most men are riding the
rocking chair. Craig still starts hundreds of colts and teaches hundreds of
classes each year coast to coast and nation to nation. Craig Cameron may
have grown up dreaming of being a cowboy but with his induction into the
Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2007, people will now always say, "He did not
just dream it, he lived it."

Cathy Hill
Barnstable Barn Burners
|
|
Biography
|
Cathy Hill -
is a lifelong rider with a large repertoire of equestrian interests and
skills with a host of awards for barrel-racing and in the show ring. Cathy
is a licensed instructor and trains riders of all ages, interests and
ability levels. Her holistic approach to riding and training is based on her
deep intuitive understanding of the multi-faceted relationship between the
mind and body of both horse and rider and her unique ability to communicate
that understanding to her students.
Born on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Cathy moved to California at the age of 6
where her Sunday pony ride adventure became the highlight of her week. By
the time she was 10, she had worked her way into a job at the pony ride
farm, grooming, mucking, tacking up, whatever was needed. Before long, she
was the girl with the whip in the middle of the ring ensuring that the ten
ponies and their inexperienced charges trotted safely and methodically
around in a circle for the allotted time. When she wasn't orchestrating the
pony rides, Cathy was gaining mileage as the default catch rider, the
working student who played with the new ponies as they arrived, both on the
ground and on their backs, till they were schooled enough to enter the
program. Soon she was also working with horses brought in for sale, training
and showing them in Western Pleasure and Equitation. She even learned to
drive the sulkies back on her aunt’s harness racing track during summertime
visits to Cape Cod. The hours upon hours of focused time spent working with
horses in a myriad of capacities allowed Cathy to develop a visceral
understanding how horses think, how they move, how they communicate among
themselves and with humans, and it is this unique perspective that has
brought her such success as a rider and trainer.
After a stint on the management side in the business world, Cathy returned
to the field she loved most. Back on Cape Cod in the 1980s, married, with
two small boys, Cathy started with a weekend pony ride business. As ponies
and then horses began to fill her small backyard farm, she started giving
riding lessons. Always the showman at heart, she would take her horses and
kid-filled pony cart in local parades. At the same time Cathy began
seriously competing in NBHA events, qualifying for Worlds annually from 1999
to 2008 and making the finals in 1999, 2002 and 2008.
As her lesson program continued to expand, she moved her operation to her
current location on 13 picturesque acres in West Barnstable, MA where she
has a 2-level 22-horse barn, an indoor arena, fenced rings and paddocks, a
round pen for training, and an outside course with permanent obstacles. Here
she runs a full service equestrian facility with group and private lessons
for kids and adults ranging from beginner to advanced in disciplines ranging
from dressage to western pleasure. It is also home to the Barnstable Barn
Burners, Cathy’s pride and joy precision drill team that performs across New
England and the Mid-Atlantic states.
A highly respected professional horse trainer, Cathy thrives on challenges,
working with, and repairing, “problem” horses that others have long since
given up on. The impressive results of these projects can be seen around her
farm, CJs Ranch, and at countless private barns up and down the East coast,
living proof of Cathy’s horsemanship, expert training skills and instinctive
rapport with these complex animals. Cathy also presents clinics at CJ’s
Ranch in Equine Desensitization Strategies, Instructor Training, Basic
Ground Work, and Under Saddle Suppling and Collection Exercises in a group
setting.

Anita Howe
Tennessee Walking Horses booth B1
|
|
Biography
|
Anita Howe
(Gaited Horses) - "Real gait comes from balance, posture and
impulsion of a horse, never from what’s nailed on his feet." Anita made
a commitment many years ago to never train gaited horses in anything heavier
than keg shoes. This philosophy opened a door for this Missouri trainer by
taking away the usual crutches others fall back on. Anita has used a
foundation of training based on the understanding that movement affected
through mechanical aids does not last and may actually be detrimental to the
horse, while classical and natural horsemanship allows a horse to
brilliantly improve each and every year he's ridden. By applying the
bio-mechanics of gait and a love of natural horsemanship to a multitude of
gaited horses over the last 14 years, Anita has developed solutions for
gaited breeds that consistently correct and improve balance, gait and
athleticism.
As a trainer and clinician Anita has a growing reputation for producing
horses that are soft, more consistent, happier and more correct in their
movement, while teaching riders to better understand biomechanics of gait as
the natural tools to help their horses release their inherent gaiting
abilities. |

Mike Hughes
Crib-Free booth 412
|
|
Biography
|
Mike Hughes - has
literally been a horseman since birth when a family friend gave his parents
a horse for him the day he was born. Mike grew up next to a poorly managed
cattle ranch and his early exposure to horsemanship was rough handling and
intimidation to create submission. Even as a young man Mike knew there had
to be better way. Mike has since sought out techniques which promote respect
and partnership and he has learned to create a relationship that involves a
quiet, mutual communication that uses the horses' natural instincts rather
than forcing the horse into a submissive state.
Mike has specialized in problem solving, stall vices, training for the
Sacramento Mounted Police Association. He has done demonstrations on problem
solving in the U.S, Ireland, Canada and the United Kingdom. After a dear
friend's horse ultimately died from colic brought on by cribbing, Mike spent
the past 7 years specializing in solving stall vices such as cribbing,
weaving, stall kicking/walking, etc. Mike decided this was the most
important gift he could give the horse world – a program that would resolve
cribbing and other stall vices so other owners would not have to suffer the
same tragedy. |

Jeannie McGuire
Tennessee Walking Horses
booth B1
|
|
Biography
|
Jeannie McGuire (Gaited
Horses) - was raised in the Western US where a sense of adventure is a
common thread in sagebrush country. She follows that sense of adventure
wherever it leads her. By age 16 she was spending her summers guiding trail
rides through the Colorado Rockies and working cattle ranches. Resistant to
the concept of traditional Higher Education, she traveled east to pursue an
equestrian degree from Meredith Manor where she was introduced to Classical
Dressage and completed her internship with USET Combined Training Medalists.
She continued to hone her instruction and training skills developing a very
unique, intuitive style. She has combined her exposure to the Native
American philosophies of earth and animals with her passion for Classical
Dressage and wove both into her current approach which connects horse with
rider in a kind of East meets West philosophy.
Twenty years ago she was introduced to her first Tennessee Walking Horse at
a field trial and spent the next few years riding and training both gaited
horses and hunting dogs. This introduction to the gaited horse world allowed
her to see there was a great gap between the traditional riding disciplines
and that of the “old time” walking horse industry. She has been at the heart
of the evolution of the “Sound” natural horsemanship movement for over two
decades and found a need for a bridge to be built to cross that gap. Her
vast experience in stock seat, hunt seat and dressage has allowed her to

consistency in training and day to day contact. It’s not magic like most

Bud and Gwen Wills Pennsylvania Equine Council booth 212-214,
235-237
|
Biography
|
Bud and
Gwen Wills (Horse Camping and Trail Riding) - Bud and Gwen grew
up on the back of a horse. Bud spent about 20 years raising, training and
showing Arabian horses. He also judged various breed shows and was active in
4 H work in Pennsylvania. In recent years, Bud worked as a licensed
horseback big game hunting guide in the northern mountains of New Mexico.
Becoming concerned about the loss of public lands to the equine user across
the country, Bud and Gwen got involved with the Pennsylvania Equine Council,
PEC. The PEC is a grass roots volunteer organization that represents the
equine owners in Pennsylvania. Bud serves as the State Trail Chair for the
PEC and Gwen as the Trail Stewardship Program Director.
No longer involved in showing they have enjoyed trail riding throughout the
country. They ride and pack mules using their mules as part of educational
programs and to do trail maintenance by packing gravel, tools and materials
for a more land friendly approach to trail work. Both Bud and Gwen are Leave
No Trace, LNT masters. Traveling throughout Pennsylvania, surrounding states
as well as national Trail Conferences they present LNT/ Ride Smart land
ethics and out door skills programs.
Through the PEC they have developed a Trail Stewardship Program. The various
educational programs are being accepted by the State and Federal agencies as
one means of keeping Public Lands open to the public. This involves
trainings for both volunteers and agency personal.
By combining years of experience Bud and Gwen also present trail user
programs, which suggests a common sense approach to the use of equine in the
trail setting. From planning your excursion to tack and equipment
suggestions to make your ride a good experience for you, your equine of
choice as well as others you may meet on the trail.

Brendan
Wise
- (General Training) is a John and Josh Lyons Certified Trainer
who is devoted to building the relationship between horse and rider through
communication and trust. He has experience with many different disciplines
including dressage, reining, racing, hunter/jumper and more. Brendan grew up
loving horses and began riding at a very young age. As his riding improved
he began to be more interested in the training side of horsemanship. His
love for people and their horses has driven him to discovering how to better
communicate with our horses. He believes that if riders can establish a
clear language that both the horse and rider understand, then there is
nothing the two can’t accomplish.
Though reining is Brendan’s greatest passion, he has studied many
disciplines and has learned to use all of them for the horse’s benefit.
“It’s all about good horsemanship”, Brendan says. Whether it is a medal
winning performance, or safety on the trail, Brendan can help you and your
